Avenue of the Champs-Elysées:
The Champs-Elysées are located in the VIIIth district
of Paris, to the northwest of the city. They begin from
the Concorde place, where draws up the obelisk, and spread
upon about 3 km, from the East to west, on flat ground in
the first half, then in rise until the Charles de Gaulle
place (former Place of Star, to the summit of the hillock
of Chaillot), in the centre of which is the Triumphal arch.
Its rectilinear tracing offers a long perspective born o
the Louvre palace, in which aligns the Obelisk, the Triumphal
arch, and farther to the west, outside of Paris, the arch
of the Defence, then the structuring axis of the new city
of Cergy-Pontoise. It is about the historic axis of the
Parisian west.
It is one of the principal tourist places of Paris. In its
inferior part, the avenue is edged of parklands (Marigny
square) and of some buildings (Marigny theatre, palace of
the Discovery). In its superior part, we find many shops
of luxury, a spectacle places (cinema, Lido, Champs-Elysées
theatre), also a famous coffees and restaurants (Fouquet's)...
