Dame De Paris:
The Roman architecture influenced the Gothic architecture.
The two styles use the arch, but there are several differences.
Contrarily to the Roman architecture, the Gothic architecture
utilizes higher arrows, more delicate bows, and big spaces.
The Gothic architecture also characterize by the stained
glass window and gargoyles.
- The
Facade : It is place where people
bring in the cathedral. The Kings gallery is filled of king
statues. The big rose window is a big window of colourful
glass.
- The cruciform plan :
As several other cathedrals,
Notre Dame De Paris is constructed in a cruciform plan,
as one can see in pictures
- Crossing of ribs:
When two bows that cross and sustain
a part of the ceiling that is called an arch. .
- Struts : Struts
replaced buttresses that were used in the Romance architecture.
Struts are bows placed between walls.
- Stained glass window:
Windows of the colourful glass that
illuminate the inside of the cathedral. As Rose windows,
but they are round.
- Gargoyles:
The decorative statuaries on the cathedral.
Some is also used as of drainpipes so that water on the
cathedral can escape.
The word ' gargle' in English comes from the word rumbles.
In the old French, the word ' gargouille' meant ' gorge'.
It was also used for described the sound that water makes
that when passes in the throat. (This word was applied as
to the sound that water makes that when flows in drain pipes.)
