In France, the mountain covers
hardly 20 % of the territory and is divided into six distinct
solid masses worked by the milleneums: Vosge, the Jura,
the Alps, Corsica, central solid mass and the Pyrenees.
The French mountains are located in the south-eastern half
of France. The average altitude exceeds 500 meters there.
The high mountains have pointed and jagged tops, crowned
with persistent snows. The slopes are stiff there and the
torrents run in steepsided valleys called throats. The medium
mountainss have rounded tops covered with forests.
In the high mountains, the activity of the men is rhythmized
by two seasons: that of the winter sports and that of summer
tourism. In the medium mountains, the winter sports are not
enough to afford the living of the inhabitants. The activities
are diversified: exploitation of the forests, breeding,
craft industry and country holidays during the summer. In
the central Solid mass, there are sleeping volcanos.the
solid mass of the Pyrenees is the border between Spain and
France. It is especially in the Pyrenees and the Alps that
one finds the great ski resorts. In the Vosges and the Jura,
we make ski touring. The greatest top of France is in the
Alps: it is the Mount Blanc(white). It is at 4807 meters.
Solid
mass of the Mountains :
The French mountain is the paradise of the skier.
With more than 8000 km of tracks, France has the greatest
skiable field of the world. You will as well find stations,
villages, and family atmospheres, as well as great fields
of ski accessible by feet. You will be able to practise
Alpine skiing or Nordic ski, all the forms of new slippery,
as well as a broad "natural" pallet of activities
(rackets, huskies, stroll on marked out paths...). The French
stations are distributed on 7 solid masses, from the average
to the high mountain: the Alps of North, the Alps of the
South, the Pyrenees, the Vosges, the Jura, central Solid
mass and Corsica.
The
Alps of North :
The Rhone-Alps area offers an extremely varied panorama
with its prestigious mountains - of which the highest and
the most legendary top of Europe: the Mount Blanc (4708m).
To associate the Rhone-Alps with the ski appears to raise
pleonasm. If the " Area 3 times Olympic ", Chamonix
1924, Grenoble 1968, Albertville 1992, gave its letters
of nobility to this sporting discipline, and after all it
is an area of mountains. Jean-Claude Killy, Franck Piccard,
Jean Pierre Vidal, Marie Laure Pequinot, Richard Gay, Carole
Montillet..., the names of the children of the country remain
for always associated with those of the stations like the
Saisies, Alpe d' Huez, Chamonix, Villard-of-Lans.... With
more than 5800 kilometers of tracks, the Rhone-Alps has
the greatest equipped skiable field in the world today.
The
Alps of the South :
The Alps of the South, union of High-Alps, the Alps of High-
Province and the Maritimes Alps (in its mountainous part)
constitute one of the vastest skiables fields of full nature:
forests of larches, fir plantations, virgin spaces ,dazzling
panoramas which give to all slippery another dimension!
Preserved by the Natural reserves - Ecrins, Mercantour and
Queyras - imagine these few 2 500 km of alpine ski tracks
and these 1 200 km of touring tracks
. On the whole 65 stations which knew to keep their authenticity,
to develop their services and their reception facilities.
You will be able to let yourselves be allured by the practice
of sports of slips: Free ride, Boardercross, snowboard,
Funpipes, speedy ski... or strange leisures: motosnow, driving
on ice, huskies, walls of ice, village of igloos...
The cultural and ludic activities will ensure you pleasant
moments after skiing: week of the jazz, the puppet, the
cartoon, the cinema, astronomy, International festival of
the laughter, Mountain workshops (Club children).... To
lodge, hotels classified 3 *, 2 *, rooms of hosts, clubs
of holidays, the lodgings, the hirings of country cottages,
studios, apartments... will have pleasure to receive you.
