THE HOCKEY
ON LAWN :
Practised since antiquity under the name of set of sticks,
the hockey on lawn in its current form is imported from
England about the middle of the 19th century. It is nevertheless
France which creates in 1924 the International Federation
of Hockey in Paris. Today 119 countries adhere to the FIH
whose headquarters are in Brussels. It manages, in particular,
the world cup and the Olympic Games.
Le Hockey in France :
With approximately 40000 practisers and 7000 candidates
having a license, France does not count less than 110 clubs
affiliated to the FFH (French Federation of Hockey). It is
a male and female sport which is declined to all the levels
in these two kinds. The French Federation of Hockey gathers
two rather different disciplines: - the hockey on lawn which
is played with 11 in the outside from March to June and
from September to December.
- Hockey in room which is played with 6 in a classic gymnasium
from December to February.
- Conceived at the beginning in ordrer not to damage lands
in grass in winter, this activity, more spectacular and
more rapid, has its own championship.the leader teams are
currently: - Lille HC among boys which gained the last four
titles in room and three on grass. CA Montrouge being the
champion of France 2001-2002 on grass Cambrai HC among the
girls which gained three titles in room and on grass. -

Hockey how
is it? :
If one evokes the presence in television, the number of
spectators, the budget of the FFH or the number of bachelors,
Hockey is a confidential sport or at the very least little
known. If one speaks about the wages of the players of the
team of France which takes part in international meetings,
it is quite simply non-existent. One is far from the business
sport. If one must speak about doping, one does not speak
about it, because it does not exist. The spectators are before
all the parents and the friends. They are still there, after
the match, to celebrate the victory together or to comfort
the defeat. They are the same ones that one finds to transport
the players, to trace the ground, to send the mails and
to find the financial assistances to ensure the transport
of the team. In short, one is far from the money king or
of the assistantship, one deals with oneself and it is not
easy all.the days.On the ground, the players play with a
stick and yet contrary to the neighbor the hockey on ice
not of protective carapace.
Physical engagement is important but violence is not to
the appointment. Here one can speak about fair play. It
is a whole education. Finally, it is a true sport which associates
physical condition, technical individual dexterity and team
spirit. Thus, if you are a relative, who wonders: Which collective
sport for my son or my daughter? Think of the hockey on
lawn, for your child it is a whole education and for you,
a new circle of relations. If you are elected in your commune,
here is a convivial activity, without concern and which
is not expensive. There is not only the notoriety which
counts! To help you the FFH did many efforts to develop
Hockey in educational circle and to thus arouse the interest
of the young people.
